The Daejeon Philharmonic Orchestra under guest conductor Jacques Mercier will perform a concert with guest violinist Rodrigo Puskas at the Daejeon Culture and Arts Center on the 9th of May.
Born in Metz in 1945, Jacques Mercier, has performed at the Salzburg Festival, and in Bucharest, Helsinski, and Madrid where the critics described him as "one of the best French and European conductors of his generation". Between 1982 and 2002 Jacques Mercier was artistic director and permanent conductor of the Orchestre National d’Ile-de-France. He developed a demanding and ambitious artistic programme which earned the orchestra the reputation it holds today as a leading orchestra. Jacques Mercier was also permanent conductor of the Turku Philharmonic in Finland for seven years. He was elected “musical personality of the year 2002” by the Syndicat Professionnel de la Critique Dramatique et Musicale.
Rodrigo Puskas was born in Budapest, Hungary. When he was seven he began to play the violin under his mother's guidance. At the age of eleven he won First Prize in the Budapest Violin Competition and the same year was admitted to the prestigious Franz Liszt Academy of Music, where he continued his studies with Professor Denes Kovacs, Head of String Department. Rodngo received First Prize in the Budapesti Szemle, the Janos Koncz National Violin Competition and the National Chamber Music Competition.
